Ekaterini Karamessini holds a doctorate and a master's degree in Composition from the University of Sussex and a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, from Berklee College of Music in the United States, with scholarships from the Onassis Foundation and Berklee College.

Her music has received performances in the United States and in England, including chamber music, symphonic and choral works, ballets, songs, incidental music for the theatre, and three operas.

She won the Chanctonbury Chorus Composition Competition for the Millennium (England, 1999) for her work 'with beauty and beauty and beauty…' for saxophone (soprano and alto), solo soprano voice and 12part chorus - a tribute to Virginia Woolf (text in Latin and English by the composer).

Her opera "the Little Prince" (in English) won a special commendation at the Nancy Van de Vate International Composition Competition for Opera (USA, Austria 2003).

Her studies include:                                                                                                        Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) at Sussex University in Music Composition. Scholarship from the Onassis Public Benefit Fund with professor Martin Butler and professor David Osmond - Smith.

Master of Arts in Music Composition at the Graduate Centre for Culture and Communication at Sussex University.

Bachelor Degree in Composition and Film Scoring with summa cum laude, Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts. Scholarships from the Onassis Public Benefit Fund and the Berklee College of Music.

Master classes in piano performance at the Mozarteum Akademie in Salzburg, Austria.

Piano Diploma from the National Conservatory of Athens with honours.
